The Product Industrialisation technologist will lead the technical feasibility and industrialisation of polyhalite based product concepts from pilot scale through to commercialisation initially focused on polyhalite + nitrogen concepts. The role ensures product concepts can be manufactured safely, reliably and efficiently, generating the data, insights and recommendations required to inform go/no go decisions and guide future manufacturing routes. Key duties include: Lead the end-end industrialisation of polyhalite based product concepts from laboratory/pilot scale through to commercial implementation, Plan, execute and analyse laboratory, pilot and full-scale plant activities, including granulation trials, production runs and technology validation exercises Develop, update and maintain all technical/process documentation, including operating parameters, quality specifications, issues encountered, deviations and lessons learned. Build and maintain direct relationships between internal technical functions, external partners and operational stakeholders to support effective execution Represent the company during partner site visits, capability reviews and technical discussions to evaluate readiness for scale up and manufacturing Contribute technical proposals to sections of academic publications, investment papers, risk assessments and other documentation required for stage gate approval Support the creation, protection and management of company Intellectual Property (IP), ensuring alignment with innovation and product strategy. Establish robust and structured feedback loops into the Product Development Manager to support senior-level reporting, decision-making and portfolio prioritisation. Develop the technical data, insights and recommendations required to inform go/no-go decisions regarding future manufacturing routes for polyhalite based products and facility readiness. Bring Hands-on experience of fertiliser granulation processes, ideally including nitrogen or phosphate production processes to strengthen sale up and optimisation activities. Support development of new crop nutrient solutions that address the opportunities in crop productivity, soil health or environmental management. Work cross-functionally between technical team, engineering and partner organisations to align development, trial execution and scale-up plans Build strong collaborative relationships with regional teams, granulation facilities and future operational teams to ensure smooth transfer from development to production Contribute to the ongoing growth, refinement and adoption of the innovation system and associated stage-gate processes. Provide accurate technical inputs to product stewardship, regulatory, and compliance activities. Ensure high-quality technical records, trial data and process notes are maintained in line with AA protocols, standards and stakeholder requirements.
BSc in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Materials Science or related fields Experience: Strong working knowledge of granulation chemistry, ideally within fertilizers or other particulate/process industries Understanding of laboratory and pilot plant operations, including material handling, process optimisation and scale –up principles Experience supporting or running small‑scale trials, pilot activities or process validation exercises. Understanding of process documentation (e.g., trial reports, operating parameters, quality specifications). Experience working in a safety‑critical, regulated or quality‑driven environment (chemicals, minerals, fertilizer, or similar). Experience collaborating with engineering, operations or external technical partners to deliver product or process outcomes. Experience of communicating with non-technical professionals (commercial, finance, etc.) to ensure collaboration with office based colleagues Ability to interpret technical data (analytical results, process conditions, product quality metrics) and translate insights into recommendations. Preferred (but not essential) Experience with fertilizer production processes (nitrogen, phosphate, compound/NPKs). Experience with product scale‑up, plant start‑ups or technology transfer activities. Experience in particle technology, bulk solids handling or mineral processing.
Who we are : We aim to lead the industry by pursuing ever safer and more responsible ways of working, demonstrating integrity and showing care and respect for people and the planet. That means we are constantly seeking new opportunities to mine and process our products sustainably, using less water, less energy and more precise extraction technologies. As the custodians of coal and other precious natural resources – diamonds (through De Beers), copper, platinum and other precious metals, iron ore and nickel – our extraordinary teams work safely and collaboratively, with the utmost consideration for local communities, our customers and the world at large.
