Primary Function of Position A Tooling Engineer on the NPI Product Support Engineering team is responsible for identifying tools that are required to complete field service activities, releasing design/specification documents for all tools used by Field Service Engineering (FSE), and working cross-functionally to design processes for managing FSE tools. This role will also work closely with engineering teams across the business to track product launches and design changes that could impact FSE tooling. Essential Job Duties • Service Tool Identification & Design o Collaborate with Product Support Engineers to define tools required to support new product launches. o Design proprietary tools for use by engineers to service Intuitive products. o Define preventative maintenance and calibration (PMC) requirements for tools used by field service engineering. o Collaborate with planners and buyers to ensure adequate inventory of new tools to support new product launches. • Service Tool Documentation o Create field service tool parts and tool kit BOMs in Agile. o Update tools and tool kit BOMs in Agile for end-of-life changes to components, new suppliers, or addition of new tool models. o Develop and maintain all process instructions for assembling tools and building tool kits. o Create PMC documentation for calibrated tools used by field service engineering. o Verify all service documentation is released and maintained in accordance with the ISI Quality System. • Process Design & Support for Service Tool Management o Work with Compliance, PMC, Logistics, and Service teams to define and/or revise processes for managing calibrated tools used to service Intuitive’s products. o Work with Global Services Business Systems and IT teams to define requirements when process/workflow updates require corresponding updates to business/IT systems. o Coordinate roll-out activities for new tools and tool kits. o Identify required improvements related to current tooling solutions and drive projects to close gaps. • Evaluate Impact of Equipment Events (EEs) o Investigate EEs for field service tools and evaluate the impact to product in the field. o Complete EE tasks in SAP and coordinate any follow up actions with the relevant stakeholders
Required Skills and Experience • Experience with Documentation Control systems. Prefer Agile/ACCS and SAP (inventory management or DHR). • Experience reviewing technical documentation, evaluating against specific criteria, and managing document updates. • 3D CAD proficiency, SolidWorks preferred. • Must possess an understanding of GMP/ISO. • Must possess strong attention-to-detail, individual initiative, sense of ownership, and organizational skills. • Must be a self-starter and capable of working effectively with little supervision and be capable of identifying and driving individual projects. • Must be capable of working effectively in cross-functional project teams. • Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills Required Education and Training • Minimum 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related fields. • Minimum 5 years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 3 years of experience with a Master’s degree working as a tooling/equipment engineer or equivalent position supporting a field organization.
