AECOM is seeking an experienced License Management Specialist. This role is responsible for the centralized oversight, optimization, and governance of Cornerstone approved engineering software licenses used across the global enterprise. The role ensures legal and contractual compliance, cost‑efficient utilization of licenses, and alignment with strategic technology and business objectives. The specialist works within the Enterprise Capability team which provides global operational capability for engineering applications and acts as the central hub for vendor engagement, application lifecycle management, software rationalization and governance. This position offers a hybrid work schedule, with three days per week required in the office and the remaining days available for remote work. This position will be based in Pretoria, South Africa. Key Responsibilities: 1. Software License Governance & Compliance Maintain a centralised and accurate inventory of all Cornerstone engineering software licenses, and related documents Monitor, audit, and validate software & license usage to ensure contractual and legal compliance against vendor terms and agreements Interpret license entitlements, terms, and vendor contractual obligations. Mitigate compliance risks through proactive monitoring, process improvements, and internal awareness, including conducting of regular internal audits Contribute to the development of governance documents relating to licensing and set controls for compliance for software usage, and disposal. This also involves training employees on license compliance to prevent unauthorized installations and use along with version control 2. Optimization & Cost Management Analyse usage data to identify underutilized or redundant licenses, and control overspending Recommend optimization actions such as consolidations, reassignments, or rationalization. Support budgeting and forecasting of license requirements for Cornerstone applications. Provide insights to reduce operational costs while maintaining business continuity. 3. Vendor & Contract Management Support Support centralized vendor relationship management for engineering software providers. Contribute to vendor review cycles, renewal negotiations, and contract updates. Maintain documentation related to licensing agreements and procurement history. The license management specialist works with vendors on license requirements for requests relating to Cornerstone applications and addresses non-Cornerstone software requests along with budget and planning 4. Operationalizing Global Engineering Application Services Work with Enterprise Capability teams to support global deployment and delivery of cornerstone engineering applications. Ensure license allocations are aligned to global service delivery needs and project requirements. Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of license management processes and toolsets. 5. Cross‑Functional Collaboration Partner closely with: IT Procurement – to support purchasing decisions, renewal activities, and contribute to vendor negotiations. Budget & Planning Analyst and teams – to validate budget requirements, forecast usage, and support financial modelling. Software Rationalization Specialist – to evaluate S/W application usage, eliminate redundancies, and contribute to technology rationalization strategies. Governance specialist – to advise, recommend on and provide Business intelligence to support the Governance of Cornerstone Applications Engage with engineering teams, business lines named, and global operations teams to ensure alignment on license needs and consumption patterns. Skills & Competencies Technical Skills Knowledge of software licensing models (subscription, perpetual, concurrent, named user entitlements). Experience with engineering applications (e.g., CAD, simulation, design software). Proficiency with license management tools and reporting systems. Strong analytical and data interpretation skills. Behavioural Competencies Strong attention to detail and risk awareness. Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills. Ability to influence decisions through evidence‑based insights. Problem-solving mindset and continuous improvement approach.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in information technology, engineering, business, or related field and four (4) years of experience in software asset management and/or license management or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. Preferred Requirements: Experience in software asset management, license management, or IT procurement (preferred). Experience in a global or engineering‑focused environment is an advantage.
