AECOM’s Enterprise Capabilities team is looking for a Senior High Voltage AC/DC Cable Engineer to join our team in Romania. About Enterprise Capabilities Fundamental to our Think and Act Globally strategy and digital adoption, Enterprise Capabilities (EC) is AECOM’s primary vehicle for workshare. Operating across geographic boundaries and time-zones, EC partners with regional and Global Business Line project teams to provide technical expertise, accelerate delivery and keep AECOM competitive in the industry. With a team of over 3000 technical professionals located across nine countries and remote technical anchors, EC teams are trusted to deliver high-quality, specialist services that help to fill capability gaps, resourcing needs and technical constraints on projects of all scopes and sizes. Start here. Grow here. This role is designed to support flexible working arrangements: Bucharest-based candidates: Hybrid work model Candidates based in other cities in Romania: Fully remote International candidates: Applications are welcome; however, relocation to Romania is mandatory if selected. Visa sponsorship will be discussed and initiated after successful completion of the first interview stage. Here is what you will do: 1. Cable System Design and Engineering: Develop and implement designs for cable systems, including medium and high-voltage cables for various applications within transmission and distribution networks. Develop detailed designs for HV, MV and LV power cables, including conductor sizing, insulation thickness, and shield requirements based on project needs and industry standards. Experience with DC cable route design, including underground, submarine, and installation constraints, with consideration of thermal resistivity, soil conditions, and installation methods. Design cable layouts and configurations to meet electrical, thermal, and mechanical requirements, accounting for factors like ampacity, voltage drop, and cable aging. Perform engineering analyses, such as thermal, electrical, and mechanical evaluations, to ensure optimal cable performance and longevity. Conduct load-flow studies and evaluate cable ampacity to support system reliability and performance objectives. 2. Project Management and Coordination: Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and stakeholders to coordinate project schedules, milestones, and resource needs for timely project execution. Assist in the planning, budgeting, and resource allocation of cable projects, ensuring adherence to project timelines and financial targets. Prepare technical reports, project documentation, and budget estimates to support project planning. 3. System Optimization and Performance Analysis: Conduct thermal, electrical, and mechanical modeling to identify and mitigate potential system issues. Optimize cable systems by evaluating and implementing advanced engineering practices and innovative solutions to enhance system reliability and efficiency. Monitor system performance metrics and recommend upgrades or modifications to improve overall system resilience and efficiency. 4. Compliance and Standards: Ensure all cable designs and projects meet relevant industry standards (IEC, IEEE, ANSI) as well as company policies and regulatory requirements. 5. Documentation and Technical Reporting: Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including calculations, design drawings, specifications, and installation/maintenance procedures. Generate progress reports, performance analysis, and inspection outcomes to support project updates and ensure project transparency.
Here’s what we’re looking for: Education : Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. Experience : 5+ years of experience in cable design, analysis, and installation within the power or utility sector. Skills : Strong analytical and problem-solving skills specific to cable design and power distribution. Effective communication and teamwork skills. Proficiency in cable system design principles and relevant software tools, such as CYMCAP, AutoCAD. Preferred Qualifications: Experience at an advanced level for power cable design tools (e.g., ETAP or similar) Prior experience preparing technical reports for grid connection or renewable energy projects (e.g., wind, solar, hybrid, battery storage). Exposure to international and regional standards (IEC, IEEE, ANSI) and Middle Eastern, European or Australian standards. Prior experience in a consultancy or technical advisory role within the power sector is desirable.
