AECOM is seeking a Roadway Design Engineer to join our Roadway Design team in our Raleigh, NC office. This is a part-time position expected to work 16 hours per week, though hours could vary depending on project and client needs. This position offers an excellent opportunity for hands-on experience with roadway design, plan production, and exposure to all phases of transportation projects from concept through construction.
In this role, you'll lead the design and preparation of roadway construction plans including alignments, profiles, cross-sections, and quantity summaries. You'll support developing right-of-way (ROW) plans, maintenance of traffic (MOT) layouts, and cost estimates while serving as a technical resource for other members of the team.
You'll apply NCDOT roadway design standards, manuals, and plan preparation procedures to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements. Your work will include drafting and revising plan sheets using MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer, performing engineering calculations for horizontal and vertical geometry.
The role also involves supporting the coordination of utilities, Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE), and other design disciplines. You'll participate in field reviews, data collection, and coordination meetings with project stakeholders while maintaining organized project files and documentation following company and NCDOT QA/QC procedures.
