Northwestern Memorial Healthcare is seeking a Patient Care Technician for our Medical Surgical Observation unit. This casual position works every other weekend on the day shift from 7am to 7:30pm, providing essential patient care support under the supervision of registered nurses.
The Patient Care Technician performs basic nursing care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN. You will monitor vital signs, take blood glucose measurements, and record intake and output. The role includes assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, and eating. You will report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff promptly.

The ideal candidate demonstrates critical thinking skills to prioritize unit work as patient and staff needs change. You should utilize effective communication skills when answering telephones, intercom, and call lights, maintaining appropriate telephone etiquette. The position requires the ability to function under stressful situations while serving as a liaison between patient care units and other departments.
