Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Patient Care Technician performs basic patient care activities in our Cardiac Telemetry unit, providing essential support to the nursing team and ensuring quality patient care.
As a Patient Care Technician, you will perform basic nursing care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output. You will assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, and eating. The role requires reporting abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff promptly. You will assist with keeping patient rooms clean and orderly, maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for patients. The position demands flexibility, organization, and multi-tasking abilities to successfully manage varying patient needs. You must be able to function effectively under stressful situations while utilizing critical thinking skills to prioritize and complete unit work as the needs of the unit, patients, and staff change. Serving as a liaison between patient care units and all other patient-related departments is an important aspect of this role. You will answer telephone, intercom, and call lights in a polite manner using appropriate telephone etiquette, communicating information to the appropriate staff, family, or patients. Additionally, you will manage overall unit workflow in concert with the charge RN and/or assistant manager on an as-needed basis, performing pre-census and validating daily admission data.
Candidates should possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Patient Care Technician certification or CNA certification is preferred. Previous healthcare experience, particularly in acute care settings, is advantageous. Strong communication skills, compassion, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are essential.
