Northwestern Memorial Healthcare is seeking a compassionate Patient Care Technician to join our Transplant/Hepatology unit on a casual nights basis. The Patient Care Technician reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards.
The Patient Care Technician's primary function is to assist and support the Professional Registered Nurse in all aspects of direct and indirect patient care activities. You will function as a member of the unit staff under the direction and supervision of the professional Registered Nurse.
You will assist with the admission, transfer, and discharge process to ensure smooth patient transitions. Taking and recording vital signs including temperature, pulse, respirations, weight for adults and/or neonates, height, and blood pressure is essential. You will measure and record intake and output including output from drains.
Applying cardiac monitor/oximetry and obtaining EKG readings are important technical responsibilities. You will adhere to infant security protocol with accurate assessment of band placement and perform normal newborn hearing screening. Obtaining capillary blood glucose readings and other point-of-care testing may be required.
Providing basic nursing care and comfort measures to patients, assisting with activities of daily living, and maintaining a safe patient environment are core responsibilities. You will communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure coordinated care.
