Northwestern Memorial Healthcare is looking for a dedicated Patient Care Technician to join our Stem Cell Oncology unit on a casual nights basis. The Patient Care Technician reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards.
The Patient Care Technician's primary function is to assist and support the Professional Registered Nurse in all aspects of direct and indirect patient care activities. You will function as a valued member of the unit staff under the direction and supervision of the professional Registered Nurse.
You will assist with the admission, transfer, and discharge process to ensure seamless patient transitions. Taking and recording vital signs including temperature, pulse, respirations, weight for adults and/or neonates, height, and blood pressure is a fundamental responsibility. You will measure and record intake and output including output from drains.
Applying cardiac monitor/oximetry and obtaining EKG readings are essential technical skills. You will adhere to infant security protocol with accurate assessment of band placement and perform normal newborn hearing screening when required. Obtaining capillary blood glucose readings and performing point-of-care testing may be part of your duties.
Working in the Stem Cell Oncology unit requires special attention to immunocompromised patients. You will follow strict infection control protocols, provide emotional support to patients undergoing cancer treatment, and assist with specialized care needs unique to oncology patients.
