Northwestern Memorial Healthcare is seeking a compassionate Patient Care Technician to join our Stem Cell Oncology unit on a casual days basis. The Patient Care Technician reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards.
The Patient Care Technician's primary function is to assist and support the Professional Registered Nurse in all aspects of direct and indirect patient care activities. You will function as an integral member of the unit staff under the direction and supervision of the professional Registered Nurse.
You will assist with the admission, transfer, and discharge process to ensure smooth patient transitions throughout their care journey. Taking and recording vital signs including temperature, pulse, respirations, weight for adults and/or neonates, height, and blood pressure is essential. You will measure and record intake and output including output from drains.
Applying cardiac monitor/oximetry and obtaining EKG readings are important technical responsibilities. You will adhere to infant security protocol with accurate assessment of band placement and perform normal newborn hearing screening when needed. Obtaining capillary blood glucose readings and other point-of-care testing may be required.
Working daytime shifts allows for greater collaboration with the multidisciplinary healthcare team, including physicians, specialists, and support staff. You will participate in care planning meetings and have more opportunities for professional development and training during regular business hours.
The Stem Cell Oncology unit specializes in treating patients undergoing stem cell transplants and other oncology treatments. You will provide compassionate care to patients facing serious health challenges while following strict infection control and safety protocols.
