The Patient Care Tech performs a variety of clinical and patient care related functions under the direction of the clinical RN or physician. This position provides essential support to patients and staff in the B1 Observation unit at Northwestern Memorial Healthcare's Lake Forest location.
Collect, label, and transport specimens as assigned. Obtain 12-lead EKGs and discontinue saline locks and indwelling urinary catheters. Discontinue telemetry monitoring packs and perform bladder scans.
Perform point of care testing as appropriate. Assist patients with personal hygiene and nutritional needs as identified on patient's plan of care. Perform hourly patient rounding in collaboration with the clinical RN.
Obtain and document patient care data as directed by the clinical RN. Assist with patient ambulation and positioning as directed in the plan of care. Respond to patient call lights and requests for assistance in a professional and timely manner.
Assist the healthcare team in maintaining a clinical care environment that supports patient, family, and staff safety. Assist with post mortem care when necessary.
Candidates should have patient care experience and strong interpersonal skills. Certification as a Patient Care Technician is preferred.
