NBC News is seeking an experienced Manager, Editorial Records Desk to support our award-winning editorial research and verification infrastructure. This critical role partners closely with the Director of the Editorial Records Desk with heavy emphasis on research and records management within the legal system and judicial networks.
This position plays a vital role in ensuring NBC News remains a leader in credible, well-sourced, and data-driven journalism. You will be responsible for sourcing, summarizing, and interpreting legal documents, court filings, and other public records for producers and reporters. Your work directly supports investigative journalism and breaking news coverage across NBC News platforms.
The role requires solid understanding of the law, court systems, and public records access both offline and online. You must be able to explain complex legal terms and jargon in plain language for newsroom consumption. Conduct in-depth research using federal, state, and local court and public records databases including PACER, CourtListener, Courtlink, Nexis, TLO, Accurint, and Factiva.
Key responsibilities include assisting in retrieving legal documents, filing public records requests through county clerks, FOIA, and FOIL. You will track ongoing litigation, monitor court dockets, and provide research memos summarizing findings for reporters and producers. People finding and identity verification using public records is also essential to this role.
The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of legal, newsroom, investigative, or research experience, ideally within a broadcast, digital, or multimedia environment. Advanced command of LexisNexis, Accurint, PACER, Pipl, ProQuest, and related systems is required. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential for success in this fast-paced newsroom environment.
