This part-time Lactation Consultant position works 3 eight-hour shifts from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM (24 hours total) in the Mother/Baby unit at Northwestern Memorial Healthcare's Chicago location.
Provide direct and/or indirect care to a specific case load of patients regardless of geographic location. Receive and assess referrals from all hospital units. Consult with nursing staff to develop, implement, and evaluate care plans for patients and families.
Teach patients and families demonstrating unique learning needs to promote optimal level of wellness. Initiate and develop teaching guidelines specific to area of expertise. Develop and conduct internal and external formal educational programs.
Teach staff on a formal and informal basis at the individual unit level. Document activities in patient medical records. Assume responsibility for own continuing education. Apply appropriate current theoretical concepts to implement changes in nursing practice.
Current Illinois License as a Professional Nurse required. Lactation Consultant certification (IBCLC) preferred. Strong teaching and communication skills essential.
