And everyone, in their own unique way, plays an important part, every day. Responsible for day-to-day supervision of staff, laboratory testing and workflow in the laboratory section as assigned. Ensures laboratory results are produced in accordance with established laboratory procedures. Coordinates communication of technical and result issues to lab management and operations leadership. Provides advanced technical support for staff and is an active participant in quality assurance management in the laboratory. Major Responsibilities: Oversight of laboratory staff: makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions. Resolves grievances and other personnel problems within position responsibilities. Completes documentation of competency: signs off on new employee’s probationary period and annual staff competencies, as required by CAP. Coordinates scheduling, staffing, and emergent coverage needs for all campus laboratory locations. Is an active participant in the management team facilitating the implementation and communication of the departmental goals. Make recommendations for capital purchases, staff and /or process changes to be included in the budget consideration process. Ensures day-to-day decisions are consistent with the laboratory’s financial goals and objectives. Writes, edits, and organizes new and existing procedures. Takes an active role in the procedure review process to ensure they remain consistent with laboratory practices. Ensures compliance with all laboratory quality and safety policies. Ensures all periodic instrument maintenance is performed. Serves as a laboratory resource for advanced instrument repair/troubleshooting. Provides guidance and appropriate follow-through to other staff members for complex or unusual test results. Facilitates completion of validation studies for new equipment/assays. Develop staff training plans for new equipment and assays. Ensures all proficiency testing is performed according to established laboratory and CAP procedures. Reviews all CAP proficiency results and leads investigations into CAP PT exceptions. Standard Supervisor Level Responsibilities: Supervises assigned personnel including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training. Makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions. Resolves grievances and other personnel problems within position responsibilities. Coordinates the assignment of tasks and helps resolve technical and operational problems. Evaluates the impact of solutions to ensure goals are achieved.
