A print estimator's job is to estimate the cost of printing jobs and provide bids. The ideal individual will be an integral part of customer service and print workflow, has an awareness of unrelated activities and must be able to interact and successfully complete projects with pressmen, customers and salesmen.
Estimating Costs: Analyze documentation to estimate the cost of materials, labor, time, and production. Evaluate the capabilities of the printing operation and determine the most economical way to produce the job.
Developing Bids: Collaborate with customers and sales teams to create accurate bids and estimates that meet client needs while maintaining profitability.
Communicating with Production: Communicate layout specifications and material choices to production workers to ensure smooth execution of printing jobs.
Maintaining Records: Keep accurate records and documentation for all estimates to support tracking and continuous improvement.
Finding Cost Savings: Develop knowledge of available materials and recommend cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
Consulting: Consult with customers, sales, vendors, and other departments to discuss estimates and resolve issues effectively.
Strong math, computer, and analytical skills are essential. Ability to work well under tight deadlines for projects of various size and scope. Positive can-do customer focus and attitude. Must have comprehensive knowledge of all printing processes, paper, ink, computer operation and purchasing. Complete ability to calculate the quality of paper, ink, plates and the time required to complete each job. Excellent customer service skills required.
